Favicon is short for “Favourites Icon“that are displayed in the browsers address bar next to the URL to identify a bookmarked Web site.In the past you only saw Favatars on larger corporate sites that paid web developers big money to create their online identities, but now a days even us lowly bloggers can add originality to our sites with a custom icon.
Browsers such as Mozilla have added support for favicons. Depending on the browser, the favicon can appear in a variety of places, not just in the bookmarks list (in fact, it may not even appear in the bookmark list at all).
